Ahead of the mayoral elections in May, the Royal British Legion (RBL) launched an Action Plan, a set of practical measures regional mayors can take to improve the lives of their local Armed Forces communities.
Mayors were elected in the following areas: East Midlands, West Midlands, North East, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, York and North Yorkshire, Tees Valley, Liverpool City, Greater Manchester and Greater London.
RBL is asking its supporters who live in the regions who have elected mayors, to write to their mayor, to tell them about our Action Plan, and ask for their commitment to improve the lives of their local Armed Forces communities.
The recommendations include upholding the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring better access to health and social care, education, and employment for the Armed Forces community, including Service personnel, veterans and their families.
RBL have already written to all newly elected and re-elected mayors to seek a meeting with them to discuss our Action Plan. But we know that local support makes a real difference to mayors taking action. We hope you can support our work by ensuring the RBL Action Plan is implemented by all mayors across England.
Will you call on your mayor to support the Armed Forces community?
